Seeing conditions last night in Provo's South Fork canyon were only fair -- but it proved to be a successful night, sharing the usual summer fare with my wife's son (here visiting from Sweden) with my 16" dob. From time time I set up (about 8:35) to tearing down (~11pm), we spotted just 5 meteors, only 2 of which were Perseids (I saw one Monday night in my Lindon neighborhood out walking), but they were pretty bright, one leaving a persistent train for a few seconds, and covering much of the sky heading South-West. Perhaps some of you have had (or will have) better luck this week...? Anyway, he was pretty happy -- this was the first time in his life he had even seen a meteor (much less galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters), though he had seen Saturn before (in the scope at the Stockholm Institute of Technology). /R
