Dana There are 4 cameras that are mentioned a lot by astrophotographers. The Nikon Coolpix 4500 (about $400). There is a Coolpix 5000 but for various reasons astrophotograpers like the 4500. There is a Canon Reble 300D (about $900). There is a Nikon 70D (about $1000) and there is a Canon 10D (about $1500). You can guess which one is the best.
