An "ahh" moment

I got home late last night to find that my wife was still at school working on a paper and that the horses were still not fed. I changed and went outside, and found myself under a canopy of wonderful, glorious stars -- I timed it well; at close to 10pm in Utah County the clouds parted for a time and it sure was nice after all these wintery weeks to see my photonic friends again in full splendor. I didn't even mind the moon -- the sky was crystal clear and wonderful. Slogging through the semi-frozen mud was therapeutic for a change. Did I mention that the horses were also grateful? :o) Amazing how weeks of cloudy weather can help you appreciate the little things in life... -Rich __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Friday night whether for Utah

Weekend Whether As of 2PM the whether net at Dugway is showing that tonight (Thursday, Feb 19th) will be the best night for St. George. The whether pattern has changed, but the storm will still cut across northern Arizona and southern Utah (to about St. George) Friday evening. Rain is expected there on Friday and Saturday. The farther north you go in Utah the better it looks because the storm system now slants back to the northwest. Northern Utah looks like it has a chance of being fairly descent, if not all night, at least through a good part of the evening and certainly better than St. George. Temperatures have moderated over what we experienced the last several weeks. I am sorry to report for all you hopefuls out there that the St. George trip does not look promising. Aloha from Maui I could use a little help in the soon to purchase 5mm eyepiece question. I'd like to get a TV 5mm Radian but being the thrifty type, I like getting the most for my $$. Any suggestions as to an alternative or 2?? Aloha and mahalo Rob

Free Introductory Telescope Making Class

We would like to announce a FREE introductory telescope making class starting at 10 am on Saturday, February 21st, at Pioneer Hall located in West Jordan, 1140 W. 7800 S. At this class, we will introduce you to telescope making, mirror grinding, and will also spend some time discussing, and answering any questions about mirrors and telescopes you may have. This introductory class is free and open to the public. Anyone interested in telescope making, mirror grinding, or looking at the night sky is welcome to attend this class. John and Lisa Zeigler have taught nearly 70 people in the Salt Lake City area how to make their own telescopes. They have taught classes ranging from mirror grinding, to making the entire telescope assembly. This FREE intruductory class is the starting of, and will introduce the next extended class. During the extended class, each student will grind their own mirror and receive individual one on one time in our shop to cut out the materials to make their own telescope. We try to make certain that every student attending our extended class gets enough hands-on and one-on-one instructions that you are able to successfully build your own telescope. At the conclusion of the extended course, we will have a class star party where we will teach you how to properly use and care for your telescope. We also host star parties throughout the year to help our students better learn the night sky.
