I saw this on the KLOV forums and had to share. Scroll down to the pics, then post you own horror stories here. http://forums.klov.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=635896&page=0&fp... I don't have anything close, but I had picked up a game once that had no keys to the back door, but the coin door was open. I reached through the coin door to take the back lock apart and when I took the back door off there was a huge spider web in the corner and a spider the size of a dime sitting on it, mere inches from where my hand had been fumbling about. Still gives me the heebbie jeebies thinking about it, but I'm a wuss about spiders. -- Sean McLachlan
Very impressive... His approach will take a long time and probably won't leave a pristine game.. Having worked on a few games that were not even close to that, but still bad (and potentially smelly after cleaning -- especially one that was in a fire) I'd have to suggest a different route.. The tyvek suit is a good start. If it were my game i'd: - remove everything -- unscrewing the harness, etc. That all needs to be cleaned, and some things like the speakers replaced.. Everything includes all the hardware too -- including the metal screens, latches, etc.. You can leave the t-bolts that are for the marquee... - since the side art looks great you should wrap cardboard around them and secure it -- don't want any accidents happening.. - with the parts out take a putty knife and scrape the inside of the cabinet (getting the corners, etc) - use a powered palm sander/belt sander and take the interior of the cabinet down to clean wood where you can - make sure to get the marquee light box area and also down under the coin box.. But with the cabinet empty it should be easy.. - check the bottom -- if it is toast (possible) replace it -- easy to do while the cabinet is empty - if the cabinet isn't solid (if it was a nintendo cab this would be necessary) reinforce with more wood - wipe down the interior, make sure it is dry, then evaluate if the stench soaked into the wood.. - if it did give the interior (and bottom) a coat of Killz or black paint (whatever you think will seal it) -- if you're restoring a game that was in a fire this is necessary - clean and put everything back in -- much easier to clean the harness and bottom transformer assembly out of the game - remember to put screens in for the vent holes so critters don't come back If someone has an account on klov forums feel free to post! He's been getting some weird (I hesitate to say wrong, but it isn't helpful) advice.. Kurt Sean McLachlan wrote:
