A great Verge article about Atari cartridge art. This was half the game for me when I was a kid.
Oh, TOTALLY agreed, I wore out the 400/800 catalog (second revision) to the point that the cover fell off, even though I was careful and always carried it in a folder, just through opening it and closing it over and over to look at all the wonderful things. The 2600 catalog held up a bit better with me, but I still remember all the artwork, often better than the games. This is why my Atari consumer collection is set up like a 1980s computer store. I can recall lusting over game boxes like Blue Max and Thorn EMI's "Computer War". -Chris --------------------------------------------------------------------- This site redid the SCRAM and Missile Command 400/800 art as wallpaper. http://thenewgamer.com/content/archives/gamephemera_scram_atari_400_800 http://thenewgamer.com/content/archives/gamephemera_missile_command_atari_40... http://thenewgamer.com/content/archives/gamephemera_super_breakout_atari_400... The early 400/800 art is in a different style than that of the 2600, but still in the same "Atari late-1970s watercolor" theme.
