Shipping games: Forward air and Danzas info

FYI, Forwardair is now requiring games to be shipped in wooden crates. They won't let you just strap them to a pallet. Looks like the cost of shipping just went up, unless someone knows of a better shipper. In know we had a thread on this awhile back. Next time anybody ships a game, post the details, please. I argued the forward air guy into letting me ship it like it was, on a palette, but only because I remembered the name of the employee that told me I could do it that way. And he said "No more, and tell your friends". So plan on about $200 to ship a game with them. And that's after you build/pay someone to crate it. I did some legwork on Danzas. Here is what I found: All rates are for 5 day ground shipping. For packaging Danzas requires the "goods be packaged so as not to easily be damaged." I asked him, "What about a professional (or professional looking :)) strapped to a palette, multiple layers of cardboard and shrink wrapped type job?" He said that would be fine. But no "Wrapped in a blanket" type stuff. Shipping rates are 44 cents per lb. Insurance is 80 cents per 100 dollars declared value. Fuel surcharge is .025 cents per lb. So, to ship an Asteroids on a pallet, dimensions of 78"h X 24"w X 34"d, with a actual weight of about 370 lbs (game + packing), insured for $800 to Miami Florida costs $178.45. They charge whatever is heavier between Dimensional weight and actual weight. Dimensional weight = W X D X H / 250. If the customer wants it delivered to their house, there is residential fee of $7.50 / 100 lbs, or $14.80 in this example. Then add a liftgate service fee of $50, to get to $64.80. They will deliver about 20 miles for this fee. Further out costs more. And with Danzas, you have to have an account, although it seems any schmoe can set one up. WTB: cab and vertical monitor

Since I have acquired several vertical JAMMA boards, I now find myself in need of a cab to house them. Any one willing to sell a converted up cab with a vertical monitor in it? It doesn't need to be pretty, doesn't need a game in it. Doesn't even need the power supply, but that would be nice. Kurt, I'll trade you your Asteroids boards back for one. Who here collects the LD games?

I posted a For Trade/ For Sale for the Firefox boards, and eveyone wants to know what I'd sell them for. I don't have any idea what to tell them. I'm thinking $40, they are untested and look complete, but they may not work, after all. Is that a fair price? I'd happilly trade them for any of the $30 JAMMA boards I am looking for, so that's where I pulled the $40 figure from. A FireFox *has* to be worth more than Rolling Thunder, right?!?!?! What should I sell these for? Sean's "ready to buy these" list. TMNT Boards

I know that at least I've been amazed at how random ebay pricing can be. Along those lines I noticed that TMNT boards are actually in demand -- one just sold on ebay for $110. Wow! I figured I'd mention that to any of you that have them in your piles of jamma boards. Wish I had a stack of them to sell. Kurt

Local boy makes good

So I'm out hunting for vids today. I'm down south a bit for work, and I swing into this op's place who I have spoken too, but never dealt with before. I ask about getting a couple JAMMA boards from him, and he says "Sure, I have a whole attic full of stuff I need to clean out. Get a ladder and see what you like." Sounds good to me. I start scrounging, and come up with: Complete stuff: Street Fighter II - whee. Sky Shark - well, when I get a vertical JAMMA cab ... Rampage Kit - Ebay, here it comes. Atari Firefox boardset - Now this is interesting. And HUGE. Not surprisingly, I couldn't find the LD player or any disks. Stuff that is missing parts or is part of an incomplete set: Donkey Kong, 2 Board set. CPU board missing most socketed chips, Video board complete. Nintendo VS: with a Konami daughter card. Missing lots of socketed chips on the CPU board, daughter card complete. I think it's a Gradius. (2) Williams pinball driver boards. I didn't know what they were at the time, but if it said Williams, I was taking it. :) More Ebay fodder. BattleZone AUX board. Complete, has tag that says repaired in 1985 still hanging on it. :) Most of the stuff he had up there was not video related or new enough that he wanted to keep it. The DK and Firefox made me happy, though. So as I am up there, I notice that in the back corner of his shop is a Race Drivin'. It's #1 on my hit parade right now, so I ask him about it. He says it has sat there for over a year, with board problems. We go over to it, and it has a tag on it that reads "Will not save settings when powered off". "See", he says, "It's got board issues, and I'm out of space." For the price he asked, I didn't dare power it up, lest he reconsider. So add to the haul a Race Drivin'. !!!!!!!!!!!YES!!!!!!!!!! Then he said, "And you can have the boards for cleaning up the attic." I had hauled a bunch of junk to the garbage just so I could physically get to the PCB's.
