Currently camping near the Wedge Overlook on the north Edge of the San Rafael Swell, moon has set, almost cloud free perfect sky! But there is quite a curious cloud due north. Takes up about 3 by 5 degrees of sky perhaps, has some linear extensions. The town of Castle Dale could be emitting and illuminating this cloud but it has the very faint and tenuous nature of a mesosphere cloud or rocket exhaust cloud. I'm afraid I can't get a picture. Any one else seeing this? Incredibly beautiful. Happy new moon everyone, Ian
Is it the nearby power plant? Hey Ian, How's the crowding situation at the Wedge? I might head down soon. Thanks, Joe From: Ian Glenn <root.ibg@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, May 27, 2017 11:07 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Rocket exhaust cloud? Sorry I didn't get back to you Joe, my phone died out there right after I sent the email. It was quite crowded, hope you found a spot if you came out. That was my first time seeing an aurora and I didn't even know it! Beautiful, sublime, and ghostly white. For us it dissipated by about 1130pm. Perhaps just slightly brighter than the Milky Way core appeared when it rose a little later. Any other reports or photos? Mark, please forward a link or the shots from that photographer you met if / when you hear from him!
