SPOC Wx: Who is right?
Regarding the weather for tonight's SPOC star party I see SPOC's Clear Sky Clock is calling for clear skies: http://www.cleardarksky.com/c/SPOC2UTkey.html?1 While the NWS is saying Stansbury Park will have clouds: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=40.644177602517246&lon=-112.296... ??? patrick

I am going with no chance of rain but good chance of at least high clouds.

The County replaced the streetlights in our neighborhood recently, and we are really impressed! The new lights are full cut-off, somewhat dimmer, but still bright enough to do the job. We live on a corner, and one side of the light has a darkened panel so that it won't interfere with the vision of people coming down the steep hill from that direction. How nice to see an upgrade that is really "an upgrade"…. Wish I knew who to thank! Jo
What a great story. Years ago someone from the Salt Lake County engineering (?) office came to a SLAS meeting and talked about improved street lighting. Nice to learn they were serious. Perhaps you could ring the mayor's office (385.468.7000) and express your thanks. Now that I think about it, I think Ann House knows Mayor Corroon. Maybe she could help you talk to the mayor directly (Ann are you listening? <g>). patrick On 21 Oct 2012, at 19:52, Josephine Grahn wrote:

Jo
Patrick, is that the right area code? Should it be 485, perhaps?
Hi Chuck, I'm guessing it really is 385 since that's what the county's website (http://mayor.slco.org/html/phoneNumbers.html) says. But no matter what the area coed it's just nice to hear that sometimes government works. patrick On 21 Oct 2012, at 20:09, Chuck Hards wrote:

You might start with the county engineering office. Ask to speak with the department that is in charge of streetlighting. When you get there tell them you would like to speak To the department head as you have a compliment you would like to pay them. You may be able to find this information on the county website or in the telephone directory. Good for you. Good deeds should not go unrewarded. 73, lh Sent from my iPad On Oct 21, 2012, at 7:52 PM, Josephine Grahn <bsi@xmission.com> wrote:

Jo, could you post some pictures of the new lights, as well as some detailed information about those responsible for putting them in place, so that some of us might share this with our respective city councils and/or county engineers/planners? Sounds like an excellent springboard to get the ball rolling in a new and improved direction around greater Utah. Thanks for this! /R ________________________________ From: Josephine Grahn <bsi@xmission.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2012 7:52 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Salt Lake County streetlights The County replaced the streetlights in our neighborhood recently, and we are really impressed! I thought it was a SL City program started by Rocky Anderson and continued by Ralph Becker. IE: not a county initiative it is limited to Salt Lake City. Jo, could you post some pictures of the new lights, as well as some

But, you are not alone. If it wasn’t for me you would be. Can we get Guy back in the club?
