Hi Friends, Here's one I took this morning at Lakeside, the Cat's Eye Nebula. It's not much of a pic but the subject is interesting. Thanks for taking a look, Joe http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=4400
Looks awesome Joe. That's still leaps and bounds better than what I could do. ++++++++++++++++++ Troy Davidson, KF7MTE www.istroyworking.com On Mon, Jun 27, 2011 at 10:07 PM, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

Thanks, Troy! I had a lot of trouble last night -- apparent turbulence in the upper atmosphere, inadequate focusing, poor telescope balancing. It doesn't pay to skimp on any step. I still haven't been able to make my RoboFocus autofocus. FWIW, I have not used any sort of auto focus for years. I have that feature available but have found it's much quicker to focus manually. BTW, did you get any shots of 2011 MD? patrick
No, Patrick, I missed it. I was too busy fiddling with RoboFocus. Joe, I can almost make out the pointed ends of this wonderful PN. BTW here is a link to the best seasonal PN's (some of them) http://www.blackskies.org/seasonbst3.html and you can scroll forward or backwards for the season you want. Here is the link to their main page: http://www.blackskies.org/index.html Look at the bottom and you'll find some interesting links like this one: http://www.blackskies.org/pn_gc_challenges.htm Four challenging observations of PN's in Globular clusters for the amateur. Has anyone imaged these? I know a couple of people who have viewed Pease 1 and GJJC 1. Just curious. These two also look like fun. http://www.blackskies.org/JaFu_challenge.htm Love PN's. Joe, I came back early tonight because of the atmosphere. Very turbulent upstairs right now. I am hoping by Friday or Saturday for the weather up here to settle down. On Tue, Jun 28, 2011 at 12:41 AM, Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> wrote:

Thanks, Jay! I've actually photographed M22 where you can see GJJC1 -- not that it looks like anything special. You need a pic of the globular with the PN indicated, then you can see it. -- Best wishes, Joe ________________________________ From: Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 12:41 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] not a very good astrophoto Joe, I can almost make out the pointed ends of this wonderful PN. Hi Joe, Are you using FocusMax with your RoboFocus? If so, you may want to consider the FMaxUG on yahoogroups. The authors of FocusMax post updated versions of FocusMax there. They are also great at answering questions. If you are using Windows 7 it's very likely that you will want to use the new version. Clear skies, Dale.

Thanks, Dale. I tried FocusMax and it seemed too complicated compared with MaxIm's autofocus program. My problems are in any or all of these areas, I've decided: most likely, the "fanbelt" between RoboFocus and the telescope's focusing knob is too loose, so I'll tighten it; the size of the "steps" I specified may need to be changed; I've selected the wrong magnitude stars to try it with; or I need to figure how to adjust the backlash feature (related to the first issue, and may not be a worry if the fanbelt is correctly tight). Jorge, what a nice a coincidence -- I'd say the odds that you and I happened to picture the same planetary on the same night were astronomical! (pardon the pun). Thanks, Joe ________________________________ From: Jorge Gutierrez <gotfoxx@hotmail.com> To: Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 12:39 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] not a very good astrophoto That is a pretty good shot Joe, strangely I took a photo of it last night too, mine didn’t come out even nearly as good as your though On 2011-06-28 04:07, Joe Bauman wrote:
