Brent, I was hoping that would be your answer. The central obstruction is also less right? The central obstruction is 33% on a SCT which is why people say they are soft on planets. I would think a well collimated newtonian reflecter would outperform a SCT on planets. Debbie
A related question, is an SC's performance T superior in any way other than compactness? That is, does it track better for long exposures? Trying to be diplomatic here, Joe, a SCT is a telescope for the "masses". The fork mount as sized for portable SCT's is not especially suited to astrophotography, the optical system is a compromise.
