Re: [Utah-astronomy] Winter Star Party at Great Basin National Park
From a person who has sold thousands of sheets of Rubylith (www.astro-rubylith.com) I think it's an excellent product. I just use some blue painters tape to hold it in place. Stays put and no tape residue.

Kelly As I said before, most amateur astronomers have never experienced full dark adaptation and don't know what they are missing. It's an uphill struggle to sell them on the idea because you have to get past the natural fear of the complete dark and today people are just in love with their electronic gadgets. We can't get them to put them away while doing important things like driving a car. It requires dicipline to be able to manage your gear in the total darkness. It takes time to develop but it is well worth it. It's a different kind of observing from the "social astronomy" that goes on a most star parties. I do a lot of social astronomy but at a really dark site I want to be where it's really dark and sadly, that is away from the rest of the crowd.
