APOD is down again
There is Astronomy Picture of the Day and Astronomy Sketch of the Day. I'm not sure in terms of sketching if there are enough sketches in Utah, as far as I know I am the only one who sketches and publishes his work (please someone share with me locally). I publish my sketches at a blog I use at a website at http://interstellarsketching.wordpress.com/ and at my blog which is at http://jaysastronomyobservingblog.blogspot.com/ Not sure if I would seek to publish locally as I find Astronomy Sketch of the Day a good medium to publish to if I want to go outside of my normal avenues. I do think you have enough imagers both in and out of SLAS that would publish their work on a local level. However, I know some publish their work over on CloudyNights as well to seek input there.
Hi Jay, Good point about number of imagers. We could have a UAPOW, I suppose. ________________________________ From: Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 5:04 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] APOD is down again There is Astronomy Picture of the Day and Astronomy Sketch of the Day. Well, I did sketch at the eyepiece decades ago, but today's world is very much an immediate situation. The past has no value. On Oct 30, 2012 5:06 PM, "Jay Eads" <jayleads@gmail.com> wrote:

I think that astronomy is too focused. There is already an APOD and an AAPOD (amateur astronomers, not the other AA). I would like something like UPOD. For all of Utah, including sunsets and kittens and anything else that suits your fancy. A Utah phtoto site is a good idea, just look at KSL, who already does this. It's just that I get enough cat pics and links from friends and relatives as it is. I like astronomy and asto-imaging. If it becomes an "anything in Utah goes" site, please don't link it to this list-serve. Disclaimer: Kittens, sunsets and such are not a bad thing. I have a cat, myself, and take himself's pic very often! But there are plenty of sites catering to such already. Cat/sunset overload. At least for me. Thanks for your time. :-) On Tue, Oct 30, 2012 at 6:18 PM, daniel turner <outwest112@yahoo.com> wrote:

Frankly, a flickr group is probably better. Free, easy to use, allows mobile client uploads through it's website or an app, and best of all, no system administration. Still would require an operator though if you want it curated. Posting it to flickr though would allow everything in a photo album format with minimal operator intervention. This is going to fall apart without someone to run it--you will need someone to cull through the uploads and choose them if it's to be a 'of the day' format. Granted, not a lot of time, but it is something that has to be done on a regular schedule. And no, I'm not volunteering. Dan On Oct 30, 2012, at 6:56 PM, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:
