My pathetic little story
Joe, that's the saddest thing I've read in days! How much does Meade want to soak you for a new optics set? Plus shipping both ways, I would imagine... On Fri, Sep 8, 2017 at 3:27 AM, Joe Bauman via Utah-Astronomy < utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Joe: By equally bad chance Bruce Hugo has a 12 Meade LX200 that recently went dead when the electronics were sprayed by the lawn sprinklers at Stansbury Park. His optics are in great shape but can't be used. Last Saturday I watched Bruce and Daland Speir try to swap hand paddles to see if they could isolate the problem. Your electronics with Bruce's optics might together make up one working LX200. Hi Joe, So sorry to hear about your scope. I really sympathize, our Celestron CPC 1100 GPS died on us, but in a less dramatic way than your Mead. It starting running past objects and the motor would keep grinding away, until finally, it couldn't go to any object or track, but it could make awful noises down in the fork mount. We tried to open it up and see anything wrong, but we couldn't see anything obvious. Like you, we concluded shipping it back for repair was not affordable either. Looks like it's time for SLAS to come to Joe's aid by starting a fund to help him recover from his disaster. Ed -------------------------------------- Quoting Joe Bauman via Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com>:

Hi Folks, I'll be OK -- no need for find-raising. I just have to pick out some other stuff to sell. I'm sorry about Bruce's problem! I think the electronics can be replaced fairly easily. Dr. Clay should be able to help; he's with the LX200GPS news group on the Internet. Best wishes all -- Joe Sent from my iPhone
