Re: When lasers are outlawed, etc...
Gary, if a laser pointer was truly instrumental in fanning the spark of your interest, then perhaps Kim is vindicated and I bow to the will of the masses. I'd think the star-party movers and shakers would feel gratified as well. Thanks for posting that perspective.

Star Parties turned me on to astronomy in the last few years. Though I don't have a laser, I percieve them to be very beneficial in showing a group of people around the night sky.

I think of the laser as just another tool - one that makes it easier for me to share points of interest with others. The "gee whiz" factor may turn on others, but that's not why I bought my laser. Chuck, we have a mild difference of opinion, that's all. But if you wish, we can face off with pistols at dawn some day - I'll have my second contact your second. At a star party last summer I saw someone's green laser beam through my telescope for the first time. For me, it was a very MINOR annoyance, but I suppose that folks taking images might be a bit more unhappy about it. I was unable to attend RTMC last year, but I understand that the folks who run RTMC banned green lasers altogether. Anyone know the rationale for that decision?
