Brent, Have you split Zeta Bootes lately? Do I need at least an 8inch to split it? What are your favorite spring doubles? I'm targeting the AL Doubles list but I like to try others if they are pretty and interesting. Debbie
Hi Debbie, Sorry for the delayed response, but I had to get to my notes. I haven't done much serious observing since February. I need to get out again, and am loking forward to the Wedge next week. I'll go after zeta then. The separation on Zeta Bootis is 0.8 seconds. According to the Dawes' Limit, you should be able to achieve a split on that star with a 5.7 inch scope. You'll need a good scope and a great night to do that. Other spring doubles I like are 95 Herculis, Alpha Herculis, and Gamma Virginis. The first two are very nice color difference doubles, and Porrima is a pretty equal magnitude, equal color double that is becomming more difficult. Let me know what you think. Hey Brent, and anyone else out there tonight, can you fill me in on the Wedge trip? Somehow I've missed some email -- which weekend is it? Also, I used to go to the Wedge a lot but haven't recently. Once I got really sand-blasted there. I've ordered a new beaut of a telescope that I don't want to get sandy, and wonder if you all have any opinions about the wisdom of my taking it there sometime this summer. Best wishes, Joe Joe Bauman science & military reporter Deseret News bau@desnews.com (801) 237-2169
Joe, The Wedge has been changed to the Peoa site, and the overnight has been changed to a late nighter. See the other emails. I hope your new scope is not just a "city" scope. It may be a bit dusty at any location including the high altitude, dark sites we frequent in the summer time. Sounds like its the right time to break it in! ;> Brent --- Joe Bauman <bau@desnews.com> wrote:

Well, I hope to drive it out to dark sites a lot! But it's not here yet -- I expect it to be shipped with a week or so. Thanks, Joe Joe Bauman science & military reporter Deseret News bau@desnews.com (801) 237-2169
