I think tonight will be at least clouded-out, and probably rained-out before traditional packing-up time. On Fri, Apr 13, 2012 at 7:02 PM, Steve Fisher <iotacass1@hotmail.com> wrote:

SLAS Spring Star parties and rain seem to go hand in hand lately.

Anybody who has lived in Utah more than a year or two knows that spring weather is completely unpredictable, "clear-sky" digital BS and all. I believe that SLAS SOP is to reschedule when possible. No big deal. The public either understands, or they don't. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I'm actually sick and tired of people who ask "Can't your telescopes 'look *through *the clouds????" It was cute the first few years, but after four-plus decades, I'm wondering about our public school physics classes. It's not cute anymore. This country is doomed. Those of you who disagree, well, I'm willing to debate your opinion after 40+ years of experience on your end. In the meantime, please do not post to the list for that. Bitch at me off-list and I'll take your wrath. Kudos to the brave souls who go out regardless of the weather. Sincerely.
Mark, Jeff, and myself braved the elements (only clouds, no rain) plus one chap who I did not recognize, but drove up to the two telescopes without turning off his headlights, but then perhaps, a Prius cannot douse its headlamps while running. We had a fierce crowd. One was a ham operator who heard me announce (Thursday was UARC's club meeting) SLAS's preparations for both the eclipse and the transit, who had some specific questions. The other two, a mother with a young girl. They looked at Venus, which was really the only object to be seen, and it was frequently obscured by some strange looking cotton balls in the sky. Mars did appear a few times, but I did not catch it in my scope; I do not know if Mark caught it or not. I did not expect a number of club members, but thought a few more might have given it a try, being it was the first public star party of the year. I will say this: Personally, I was not disappointed in the evening. I knew what to expect, and enjoyed myself. 73, lh On 4/13/2012 6:21 PM, D P Pierce wrote:
