Re: [Utah-astronomy] Weather for Tuesday NWS
Thanks for that Jay. I was about to post a question to everyone about any contingency plans they might have in the case of bad weather? I'm not sure yet what I'll do if that's the case, I'll hope for better weather for now, but start looking at alternative sites to my backyard. A few things to play with over the next couple of days but it looks like the weather will be an impact to the transit in northern Utah.
If you go to this link:
http://graphical.weather.gov/sectors/utahLoop.php#tabs
then under Forecast Element go to Sky Cover and then to to Element Period and go to Tuesday at 2:00pm and Tuesday at 8:00pm the forecast is for about 57% cloud cover. The good news this is a little bit less than yesterday and the discussion and the forecast have changed to partly cloudy. The winds could be an issue and I might recommend that people have a jacket or other appropriate clothing for the weather. Looks like Dixie and St. George are the only places that have a forecast for clear skies. I'd check on Sunday again but the trough coming in will impact the event in northern Utah. Has anyone thought of having a few other non solar telescopes for after the transit to show off Saturn, Mars and the Moon at these locations?
THE MED RANGE MODELS CAME INTO BETTER AGREEMENT ON THE FAIRLY DEEP UPPER TROF THAT IS FORECAST TO MOVE INLAND NEXT WEEK WITH THE 00Z EC MOVING AWAY FROM THE SLOWER CLOSED LOW SOLUTION AND TOWARDS THE GFS ALTHO IT IS NOW EVEN FASTER THAN THE 00Z GFS WAS. THE 06Z GFS NOW LOOKS MUCH LIKE THE EC AT FIRST AND HAS SIMILAR TIMING WHICH WOULD PUT THE COLD FRONT THRU SLC NEAR OR EVEN A LITTLE BEFORE 06Z TUE...BUT IS NOW MUCH DRIER THAN THE 00Z RUN. THE EC HOWEVER HAS A SECONDARY PUSH OF COLD AIR TUE NIGHT INTO WED.
THIS TROF WOULD BRING FAIRLY STRONG SOUTHWEST WINDS TO THE CWA MON AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT AND POSSIBLY GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS BEHIND IT. TEMPS WOULD FALL CONSIDERABLY WITH HIGHS TUE AND WED NEAR OR EVEN SOMEWHAT BELOW NORMAL.
MODEL SOLUTIONS DIVERGE EVEN MORE AFTER WED AND CONFIDENCE DROPS ACCORDINGLY.

I have to work early on Wednesday morning, so travel is out of the question. If it's overcast in SLC, I'll catch it on the Web, and see it with my own eyes next time. I do plan on being around then. It's the soonest I can afford to retire. ;-)
