Hi, Does anybody know when Regulus transits or crosses the meridian on March 20th? I want to find NGC 3132 at it's highest point in the sky. The Eightburst Nebula as it is called, is well worth tracking down. I can't seem to find my Sky and Telescope Almanac. Also, I'd like to know when Delta Corvi transits so I can find Kohoutek 1-23. This one will be difficult at my latitude but I plan on giving it a try anyway. It has a relatively bright magnitude of 12.6, a good target for the 15". Debbie

Debbie I believe Regulus transits at 2004-03-20 22:39 PM local or 2004-03-21 05:39 AM UTC. For the Salt Lake area, if we were on the salt flats and had no mountain obstructing our horizon the planetary nebula in Vela NGC 3132 (PK272+12.1) would rise at 19:42, transit at 22:38 ~ 8 degrees 49 minutes above the horizon and set at 01:38. For you I would say it would transit at ~ 11 degrees + a little above the horizon. Delta Corvi rises at 2004-03-20 20:01, transits at 01:08, and sets at 06:11 at ~32 degrees 36 minutes above a flat horizon from Salt Lake City. Sorry, I have no data on Kohoutek 1-23 If my data turns out to be faulty, I need to know so I can get better. I am looking forward to one of your great reports.
