Re: [Utah-astronomy] WOW!
Wow. The highs and lows of Astronomy. On the way down to rendevouz at exit 23 with a group of people, I was hopeful. Hopeful the clouds wouldn't impair our vision. Hopeful the conditions in Florida would allow a landing. Hopeful to be rewarded for our 8 hour round trip drive. When Columbia came over, I was amazed. I was not prepared for how bright and beautiful it was. I thought it would last about 4 minutes. It was no where close to being that long. It came quick and left quick, but it was spectacular. One of the things I enjoy about astronomy are the moments when my mind allows me to briefly comprehend what I'm seeing. That beautiful meteor streaking across the sky was really a man made object, with people in it, returning home from space. Wow. For about 30 minutes it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen. I was pumped. I guess it still is one of coolest things I ever saw. It's just that the ride home was a lot more somber. Maybe at our next S.L.A.S. meeting we can dedicate some time to all of our experiences and I would love to see everyones pictures.
