Now that Christmas has passed and I did NOT get a green laser pointer, I want to buy one. Has anybody got a strong opinion about the "best" one to buy for under $150.00? Mike
I've heard Astrosystems has one of the better deals. http://www.astrosystems.biz/grnlasr.htm I totally trust these guys; the other dealers I can't speak for. Rich --- Olhomorto@aol.com wrote:

Do you have info insight regarding choice of GLP-5 vs GL-5? Jim On Dec 27, 2004, at 7:54 PM, Richard Tenney wrote:

As the ad says, the GLP-5 is tested to be known for better quality control, and the components apparently are a notch better. Not all 5 mw lasers are the same. Kim, where did you buy your laser? --- James Cobb <james@cobb.name> wrote:

I bought the green laser "Astro Aimer" by Hotech at RTMC a few years back. Then it was $200 and more costly than others. It is also a bright white flashlight (3 white LED's) and a red LED flashlight with three brightness settings. It is in a very rugged machined aluminum housing, but that also makes it a bit heavy. The laser turns on with the push of a button. It will stay on by itself for about a minute, then cycle off. Alternately, it has a separate off button. I just checked the website (http://www.hotechusa.com/astro-aimer.html<http://www.hotechusa.com/astro-aimer.html>) and found the price hasn't changed. The manufacturer was/is also promoting the laser as a telescope aiming device - it has a 1/4-20 threaded socket for mounting. However, I've found that the laser dims noticeably in cold temperatures, so I question its usefulness as a telescope aimer. A Telrad (still about $40, I think) is a better solution. I have a laser pointer that has a "stay on" feature that I find very useful. I don't know how many manufacturers offer this feature, but if I were in the market for a new pointer, I would look for it.
