A SPOC Challenge
For some time now SPOC Coordinator Bruce Grim has been wanting to add an Orion Apex 127 mm compact Maksutov to the equipment at SPOC. This was discussed at Friday's CCD seminar and now one of the students, Dave Stewart, has pledged 25% of the scope's $420 cost.
Would anyone else care to pledge to this project? If so, please reply to this message.

I just found this ad for a slightly used Apex 127 on astromart: http://www.astromart.com/viewad.asp?cid=142353 ...which would make Dave Stewart's magnanimous pledge go much further... On Sunday, September 8, 2002, at 10:56 AM, David Bennett wrote:

Which ever way you decide to go, let me know and who to send the check to for my 25% share. Anxious to see how the images are with it. Jim Stitley --- David Bennett <dlbennett@mac.com> wrote:

Hi Dave, I was not able to get this link to work - seems like something missing. So, it is different than the StarMax 127 Mak??? I don't have Orion's catalog, but I suspect it might be the OTA only of the StarMax. Did he only want the OTA, or for not a lot more, could get it on an equatorial mount with quick disconnect??? I would be willing to still donate 25% of the scope if he wanted it mounted as an option for teaching and for star parties. On a german equatorial mount it is $569.00 with case but no clockdrive. Just a thought. Thanks, Jim --- David Bennett <dlbennett@mac.com> wrote:
