RE: [Utah-astronomy] OT: West Rim pictures
Thanks Tyler and Dave. Hopefully, Jim Colwell will post some of his pictures of the West Rim as well. He had his DSLR camera with him with a wide-field lens. I prefer the lightweight Nikon point and shoot when I'm hiking but I can't get the wide-field shots like he can. Maybe I'll take the Canon Digital Rebel on shorter hikes that are not as strenuous as the West Rim. Debbie ---- Tyler Allred <tylerallred@earthlink.net> wrote:

Hi,
On Oct 21, I had the opportunity to hike the West Rim trail from Lava Point to the Grotto picnic area. The hike was a stenuous 14.5 miles which took almost ten hours to complete. There was a drop of elevation of 3600 feet. The weather was wonderful and the views were awesome. I shot over 100 pictures so I posted 16 of them in the Nature folder. I took the lightweight Nikon Coolpix 4500 along to try to capture the beauty of Zion National Park.
