Re: [Utah-astronomy] Re: Question On Recently Discovered Planet
In a message dated 5/30/2007 11:07:08 A.M. Mountain Daylight Time, SJarvis@slco.org writes: I've always wondered, however, about what we do if one day a communication from an extraterrestrial civilization is received and it contains a religious message that is as alien to us as is their biology. Something along the lines of, "How much do you know about church of Xorakrathlymon and her symbiotic shell-mate Zyxlefrup, co-mothers of All The Universe, and would you like to know more?" Here is another twist. What if we observe that their "religion" is similar to ours (pick whatever one of ours you like for the sake of discussion). However, they, in their more advanced technological state but not necessarily more advanced state of humility, fail to recognize that we seem to worship the same God. Thus, they take it upon themselves to proselytize us. I wonder whether at some future point of contact some of them would decide that our forms of worship are rather savage and in need of some coercive corrective action (in the name of eternal truth, of course.) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
