Sig, Joe, Mark...How do I get the lens off of my QuickCam Pro? I remember Joe saying that things seemed to work better without the lens. Is that the consensus? Sig, did you have your lens on or off in Flagstaff? Barney
Humm, I seem to remember that first I took off clip-on stuff that was more decorative than useful, then used a tiny screwdriver to unscrew a screw that's inside a deep hole in the quickcam. Then the sides came apart and I just took off the lens, hanging on to it so I could use it later. It was easy to put it back together. The one thing I might have done differently was to take a UV filter on somehow because I now have a speck of dust on the CCD array. It's over to the right, I know where it is, and I keep the image off that part of the view when I'm taking a picture of Mars. But for a wider image, like a moonscape, I really should get the dust off somehow -- maybe blowing it off with canned air, or maybe just using a corner of a piece of lens tissue to touch it and remove it, if I can see it. Enough musing. Anyway, to take it apart, just go carefully and slowly and you should be able to figure it out. When I got the halves apart it was easy to get the lens element off.
