RE: [Utah-astronomy] Filter seminar
I am planning to be in Parowan on the 31st. We could do it there. It is dark. We could come out and pick you up at the airport. It was the trip to Parowan that made me pick the next month because I thought we would get more people to a local party. I think the first weekend in February would be great. That is a new moon weekend, and could be done in conjunction with the shuttle re-entry. All we need is a dark location with GOOD seeing. I think that we ought to put this together for the first or second weekend in March. I can think of several places that we could do this at. We could probably get permission to use a parking lot at Antelope Island or Golden Spike. We could also go to Lakeside or Skull Valley. I would be happy to help organize it. We could do it on either Friday or Saturday night. What do you all think is best?

I don't think the object here is to get a bunch of people to attend. I am interested in looking through my telescope and comparing what I see to what others are seeing through theirs. This activity does not lend itself to getting many folks who don't have their own scopes to look through, ie a bunch of people. I am more than happy to share this with other serious observers. Here, the more the merrier. I just want time at the eyepiece without catering to the public, or someone without a telescope. Am I being to stingy? I agree with Brent; I want to compare some carefully-taken notes without distraction. The details we are talking about seeing are fleeting even during good seeing; it may not be possible to draw any conclusions after only one session. A variety of seeing conditions might be neccesary to explore this fully. C. --- Brent Watson <brentjwatson@yahoo.com> wrote:
