We all know that the little SLAS Star Party handouts has the incorrect date for Astronomy Day. If I remember correctly, it is supposed to be on May 2, which this site seems to confirm; http://www.astroleague.org/al/astroday/astrofacts.html But then I get on the Clark Planetarium site and find a different date, which is found on the last page of this pdf layout: http://www.clarkplanetarium.org/DATA/NEWSLETTERS_IMAGES/March%202008.pdf Interesting to see that astronomers aren't sure when Astronomy Day really is.
The flyer you linked to is for Spring of 2008. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of M Wilson Sent: Wednesday, March 25, 2009 7:35 AM To: Utah astronomy blog Subject: [Utah-astronomy] When is Astronomy Day? Hi Mike, Yeah, there are a few red faces at SLAS after discovering we scheduled Astronomy Day on the wrong day. So SLAS is having 2 Astronomy Days this year (hey, some folks in Utah have two spouses so SLAS can have two ADs <g>). So, we (SLAS) will have the first one on 18 April, per the handouts, at SPOC where we'll be giving away an 8" Dobsonian, 6" Dobsonian and a pair of binoculars. The 2nd one will be on 2 May also at SPOC. IIRC Siegfried is working with Harmons to do yet another AD telescope giveaway at one of the Harmons stores on 1 May but I don't know if that's official yet. Y'all will have to check out the date Clark Planetarium thinks it is (MAY 10TH) which is yet a different date. --- On Wed, 3/25/09, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote: From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] When is Astronomy Day? The date listed is May 10th, 2008 as was mentioned it is from last years newsletter, I could not find any mention of this years (2009) astro day.
I blame Daylight Savings Time.
