Here are a couple of shots I got of SPOC yesterday (Saturday) just before the star party: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/2009aug29/DSC_0112.jpg http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/2009aug29/DSC_0115.jpg I know the white vehicle is Bill Cowles'. Who does the red one belong to? Cheers, patrick
The red one is Steve Fisher. He brought his new 8" F/12 D&G refractor. On 2009-08-30 08:58, Patrick Wiggins wrote:

Is there fish in the lake there at SPOC? It would be nice to do some fishing first and then star gazing later. ++++++++++++++++++ Troy Davidson Am I working - http://www.istroyworking.com On Sun, Aug 30, 2009 at 9:35 PM, Siegfried Jachmann<ziggy943@xmission.com> wrote:

It is a lovely picture of our observatory. Have we ever done a story on it and submitted it to magazines with pictures attached? Our public star party schedule is rivaled by none, I bet. -A On Mon, Aug 31, 2009 at 8:57 AM, Troy Davidson <clandaith@gmail.com> wrote:

We had a short exchange recently in this forum about whether or not SLAS deserved some kind of recognition for our extensive public star party schedule. I know my memory is somewhat faulty, but I recall that someone suggested that perhaps we didn't deserve any special recognition. I don't remember who or why that absurd (and rather offensive) notion was offered. Most clubs about which I have heard or read offer perhaps ONE annual public star party. I find that kind of "effort" laughable when compared to what SLAS does. Ann, the short answer as far as I know is that there has never been any special recognition for SLAS and/or the observatory complex in any national astronomy or science journal, either amateur or professional, and I don't think that anyone has ever submitted an article as you suggest. OK, that wasn't a short answer - the short answer is, "No". Troy, contrary to the speculation recently offered regarding the source of certain splashing noises at night at SPOC, I always thought that they were the mosquitoes dumping cargo into the lake that they couldn't quite carry off - cats, dogs, small children... If someone wrote an article about the SPOC Complex, There is a good chance I could get it published in the Astro Leagues Reflector, they did run our story about The Bryce Astro Festival.
As I recall there was some interest in SPOC when we held their annual conference, unfortunately it was not completely functioning at that time. I think SLAS is generally pretty low key, perhaps thats why our efforts go unnoticed in the general astronomical society community. It's more likely that its Patrick messing around with his scuba gear. Erik,
Are you thinking we have noisy fish or that we might have a Nessie?

So Troy, you might catch some fish but I would not advise eating them.
The dead bush IS your fault, Rodger. I use the *lake*. ;o)

I think I will hold off fishing anytime soon at the lake. I'd be very afraid of what I caught, both on the hook and by standing in the bushes. ;) Plus, Roger says the lake is only for Stansbury residents. ++++++++++++++++++ Troy Davidson Am I working - http://www.istroyworking.com On Tue, Sep 1, 2009 at 10:03 AM, <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:
