NGC6946 - The Fireworks Galaxy - from Nocturne Observatory
Hi all. While working out the bugs in my home-built astrograph, I have been making the most of galaxy season... targeting the closer and larger galaxies, many of which I had imaged previously at shorter focal lengths. But this one is a new target for me. I spent four nights on this target, however one night had terrible seeing... so bad that I decided not to use the data at all. The night I collected the color data wasn't a great night either, but good enough. The luminance data was a different story. I finally have the collimation of my scope nearly perfect, and I got two great nights with stable skies, which is unusual here in Utah. We always seem to have the jetstream right over our heads and the seeing is frequently quite bad. At any rate, I combined the decent color data with really good luminance for this image. The full version is worth a look... I promise. :) I think I might have a new personal favorite image in my collection. I am really happy with the way the scope is now performing. Here is a link to the image on my website: http://www.allred-astro.com//viewer.php?id=135 <http://www.allred-astro.com/viewer.php?id=135&cat=1&sub=102> &cat=1&sub=102 As always, please click the image a couple of times to get to the full version. Very nice. I’d like to take a class from you on imaging technique. However, it will never happen. Keep up the good work and keep posting. Dave On Jun 12, 2013, at 11:37 PM, Tyler Allred <tyler@allred-astro.com> wrote:

Tyler, I brought up the subject of various workshops at this week's board meeting. Covering what the members want. I think a processing workshop might draw more interest than you think. How about considering it? BTW, for all, what workshops would be of interest? Probably best to email me off list. 73 On 6/13/2013 9:55 PM, Tyler Allred wrote:

I am a little late to the show, lol. Really nice job on the processing Tyler I sit there and look at processed images and just wonder how you all do them. I know there are tutorials and pages and pages of how this is done and have spent hours and hours working on them. The target I have been working on the past week is C27/NGC 6888 and have 2.5 hours of data on it and will be getting more data this weekend before it is blown out by the moon. Add me to the list of interested in learning more. Mike http://www.astrobin.com/users/ratskrad/ On Fri, Jun 14, 2013 at 1:46 PM, Larry Holmes <larry@kijoda.com> wrote:

Hey Joe. I remember that the data was pretty good and the image turned out pretty nice as well. I hope you get some imaging time in soon. How long will you be away from home? Cheers, Tyler -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Joe Bauman Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2013 10:16 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] NGC6946 - The Fireworks Galaxy - from Nocturne Observatory NGC6946 is one of my favorites too. Remember when you helped me by processing my data of it, Tyler? The exposures were inadequate but you helped make them look good, and I was thrilled. Very nice Tyler! That image is now the background of my computer. It has been a long time since something other than an APOD image made it to my background. In addition to the dozen or so obvious additional galaxies in the background, I'm really enjoying all the wonderful, colorful asterisms that emerge in the stellar foreground. Thanks Rich. This image has lots of little asterisms and also an amazing red star. I actually had to turn down the color a lot on that star because it just overpowered everything else. I was surprised enough by the color that I re-stacked the RGB data to see if I had made a mistake. The color was still there. It may be the reddest star I have ever included in an image. I especially like the three different colors of the major stars... blue, yellow, and red. I always appreciate your comments Rich. I hope all is well with you and yours. Tyler Incredible image! Amazing that regular humans can do this sort of thing. Maybe calling you a "regular human" is not accurate! I always look at your stuff even though I rarely comment, so know they are very much enjoyed and appreciated. I love hearing the technical details on the data collection and processing. I would definitely participate in a class if one were offered. (I suggested such a thing in the last SLAS general meeting.) On this particular image I an intrigued by the blue blob about about 10 o'clock from the center of the galaxy. Any thoughts on what that is? Foreground something? Thanks Dion ________________________________ From: Tyler Allred <tyler@allred-astro.com> To: 'Utah Astronomy' <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2013 10:04 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] NGC6946 - The Fireworks Galaxy - from Nocturne Observatory Thanks Rich. Your comments and feedback are always welcomed. Tyler, your astrophotos always amaze me. This shot is spectacular. ________________________________ From: Tyler Allred <tyler@allred-astro.com> To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Wednesday, June 12, 2013 11:37 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] NGC6946 - The Fireworks Galaxy - from Nocturne Observatory Hi all.
