I am thinking of taking pictures of the Mercury transit on 9 May 16. I have a Nikon D5500 DSLR that I would like to use to capture this event. Any suggestions on what type of mount I should use to mate the camera to a 10" Dob? All ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Bill Clear Skies!
I’m going to assume you have a solar filter for the Dob. In that case, all you should need is a t-ring for the Nikon, and maybe an adapter barrel depending on your focuser. I’ve got an 8” Orion Newt that the T-ring from Orion sells screws directly into the focuser. Works pretty well. http://www.cncsupplyinc.com/ Go to the 2" Nikon adapters. They also have eyepiece projection units. Or http://www.astro-physics.com/index.htm?products/products Also 2" adapter. This has a built in extension for prime focus. On Thu, Apr 28, 2016 at 1:09 PM, william baker via Utah-Astronomy < utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Thanks, one and all for your input. I have just ordered a 2" adapter for my Nikon, hopefully I can get a clear shot at the transit on the 9th of May.
