I knew him for about 45 years, my entire adult life. He was a terrific mentor and friend. We are all diminished by his passing, yet truly blessed to have known him and shared a path with him through life, thanks to this wonderful yet humbling hobby.I've seen him happy, elated, as well as completely p!ssed-off, and everything in-between. He was generous with his time, encouraging to others. And his sense of humor was like no other. When God made Siegfried, he broke the mold. I want all of the SLAS old-timers to know that you are all very special to me. I am honored to know you and you are all my dear friends. Sent from my iPhone Siegfried and his wife and brother were in southern Utah for a star party in Kanarraville and. Cedar Breaks. The star party in Kanarraville was canceled. Siegfried came up to Cedar Breaks to do some solar and and star party with me. The weather was not good so we canceled the solar viewing and he went down to Cedar City to relax and prepare for the star party at 9pm. He passed away while taking a nap in cedar city. They think it was a heart attack. He was a great friend and mentor to me. RIP...... he will be greatly missed. Mark Shelton
Thanks for that info, Mark. I know Siegfried was really enjoying his retirement, and his trips down to see you and get some eyepiece time in. As tough as it was for you, I'm glad that he was among friends and family when he passed. He has a better view than all of us, now.
