Members of the Utah Space Association were invited to attend the meetings of the Association of Space Explorers. Cosmonaut Alexei Leonov smiled at me when I looked his direction. I told this to my brother's adopted Russian sons, and they were impressed by that. I also met Gordon Cooper, and other later astronauts.
I sat next to Sen. Garn in the audience. He must have been responsible for the association meeting Salt Lake City, as he is a former astronaut — the only U.S. Senator to go into space while in office. He was terribly disappointed in the low turnout. Schools were told about the meeting but not many classes came. I got an autograph for our son, Sky, from Scott Carpenter on an association poster. He seemed surprised that anyone wanted it. Sent from my iPhone
