Kurt Fisher is requesting help on a EPOD project he has in mind for this coming Sunday. I will not be available at the time of the event, but it looks to be an interesting project. DT ----- Forwarded Message -----

Patrick and Daniel, I would appreciate it, if one of you would post the following note for an ISS crosses the Sun event on July 6, Sun, at 9am. Please note the request for club member help in taking a screen capture from the ISS live view capture at the same time that it overflys the Salt Lake Valley. Please feel free to edit and rewrite the draft post as you deem fit. Thanks, Kurt

The ISS will cross in front of the Sun on a centerline through the Salt Lake Valley and Park City's Synderville Basin on Sun., July 6, 2014 at approx. 9:03-9:04 am. Suggested observing points, which can be verified on CalSky and Google Maps, are listed below.
Additionally, I would like to request help from any club member with internet access on the morning of July 6 in the form of screen capturing an image looking down from the ISS on Salt Lake City at about that same time. I am planning a novelty submission to EPOD - a two-pane photograph. The right pane would be a picture of the ISS crossing the Sun with a near simultaneous image taken from the ISS looking back down on Salt Lake City. In May and June, NASA launched its ISS live stream - a camera mounted on the ISS that looks down towards the Earth -

The camera looks at random angles - sometimes it leads the ISS nadir ground point, at other times it points behind the ISS, but it does not point directly down.
This is to ask other club members up at that time to monitor the ISS broadcast before and after the over flight and to do a screen print capture at the best image angle. Since the ISS live view camera points either ahead or behind the ISS's ground track, you would need to monitor the ISS live stream from about 8:55am to 9:10am.
In Windows, usually FNC+PRT SC captures, and you can paste the image into MS-Paint. In Mac, CMD+SHFT+4 dumps a screen shot.
NOAA CONUS sky cover plots shows clear skys for Sunday, 8am.
Another useful link to monitor the real ground track position of the ISS is -

I encourage any other club members to pick this photo idea up, and to run with it.
Please feel free to email me with any questions fisherka at csolutions dot net . - Kurt
