Re: [Utah-astronomy] Utah's view of LCROSS
This is a Palomar photo of the area. We saw the overhang and black indents on the outcropping on the edge. But is Palomar, with adaptive optics, couldn't see anything then we didn't stand a chance. http://www.planetary.org/blog/article/00002155/ Sig On 2009-10-09 20:43, Siegfried Jachmann wrote:

Thanks for your replies, Sig and Joe. I watched from my backyard, but didn't see anything. Missed you all, but I am sure my yard was warmer than SPOC (and I could stay in my jammies). I will be to the last star party of the season tomorrow night on the Andy. See you then!

Hi all, Here's why, for an instant, I thought I had glimpsed the plume. Look at the three pics I uploaded in the SLAS gallery, starting with this one: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=2429&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 The next pic is just the same as the first, but inverted so it shows moon the same way as the Palomar pic. The third is by Palomar. Read all about it, LCROSS plume not seen in Utah but SLAS has a grand time: http://www.deseretnews.com/blogs/1,5322,10000034,00.html?bD=20091010 Thanks, Joe
Saturday's APOD has a photo from Mir showing the Centaur impact's flash. They also said it happened at 4:31 a.m. UT, so I sent one of the editors a note pointing out the mistake. Thanks, Joe
When I first read that I thought the Russians had made some incredible technology to get that good of an image from the bottom of the Pacific. Dan On Oct 11, 2009, at 1:49 AM, Joe Bauman wrote:
