It has to be a meteorite crater and it is a beautiful image. -- Joe ------------------------------ On Fri, Mar 15, 2013 10:03 AM MDT Brent Watson wrote:

Upheaval Dome being identified as an impact site is a relatively recent thing, and in some circles is still regarded as being somewhat controversial. Even the National Parks Service still has to tread lightly on the subject. http://www.nps.gov/cany/naturescience/upheavaldome.htm Me, I think the evidence for it being an ancient impact site is pretty compelling. http://trs-new.jpl.nasa.gov/dspace/bitstream/2014/20176/1/98-1053.pdf Yes, that's Gene Shoemaker involved in this study. Estimates of the age of Upheaval Dome varies considerably, but no one doubts that it is less than about 75 million years old. Other estimates put it at more than 150 million years. This means that, generally speaking, Upheaval Dome is on the order of 2,000 times older than Barringer. Kinda proud to have it in our state! Oops! I meant to say, "no one doubts that it AT LEAST about 75 million years old." My bad.
