And speaking of the new issue of Sky & Telescope, anyone happen to notice the scathing ISON essay/editorial near the back? I think it's safe to say the good Mr. Bortle doesn't like to pull punches. patrick
He's right, of course. Nobody paid attention to the data and just kept over-hyping the comet. Joe and I both cautioned against selling it to the masses as the "comet of the century". It was a pleasant little telescopic comet, to be sure, but some people feel it did give the astronomical press a black eye. Maybe we'll get lucky. After Kohoutek, West surprised us, and got little or no press. Maybe history will repeat itself. :-) On Fri, Feb 21, 2014 at 10:19 PM, Wiggins Patrick <paw@getbeehive.net>wrote:

Beyond the droning I hear the deafening sound of almost nobody caring. For the next one, we will try to shape and spin the coverage as if we had the power to do so. And again we will fail, And again almost no one will care Welcome to the twenty-first century. DT
