Kurt: You are correct in this assumption. Far and away the biggest culprit in electronic mount errors is in their cables. The CGE I own is proof of their infamous problems with cables. Could even be a bad connector where the handbox plugs into the mount. Steve

Plugs and cables can easily be checked with a multimeter, you don't need to resort to trial-and-error by swapping cables/power supplies. On 7/27/10, Steve FISHER <sfisher01@msn.com> wrote:

I've tried a combination of different cables, but with no change in function (or lack thereof). Results are always the same. I don't' own a multimeter, but having tried two hand controllers and at least two different power cables and hand control-to-mount cables (telephone type cord), always with the same outcome, I'm not convinced the problem is that simple. I wish it were. With my Meade telescope, a normal telephone-type cord doesn't work. There is a special Meade cable. I wonder if it's the same with your mount. As I remember there are two pins in the four-conductor cable that are reversed from a normal telephone configuration to the configuration Meade used. I'll have to look again - it's been a couple of years since I last checked, but I don't think I got them mixed up. Thanks, though for the reminder.
