Yes I was getting sound. The site where I watched the original congratulatory speeches is just showing silent live views of discouraged-looking scientists. ________________________________ From: Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2014 10:06 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] European Spacecraft Set to Harpoon a Comet Tomorrow A talking head on the ESA live feed has been my source. Thanks Chuck, for the update. That explains why no pictures. Not a "perfect" mission, after 9 years and so far away. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. NASA TV just showed all the congratulation speeches. Where are you getting your information?

The harpoons didn't fire, apparently, so they are saying that they don't have absolute confirmation that they are on the surface. Waiting for images.
Also the upward-pointing engine that is supposed to keep the lander on the surface isn't working. Only the microgravity of the comet is holding the lander in place.

I just heard a report on NPR that confirms the harpoons failure to fire. But the ESA team seems upbeat, saying that the rest of the lander's systems seem to be operating normally.
Live briefing at 18:30 UTC -- if I have figured it right, that's less than an hour from now. ________________________________ From: Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: Joe Bauman via Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2014 11:35 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] European Spacecraft Set to Harpoon a Comet Tomorrow I just heard a report on NPR that confirms the harpoons failure to fire. We are off of DST now - so we are UTC - 7. 1900 - 700 = 1200, so shouldn't it have started a few minutes ago? Clear skies, Dale. On Wed, Nov 12, 2014 at 11:59 AM, Joe Bauman via Utah-Astronomy < utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Yes, you were right Dale -- I can never keep the savings/standard time thing straight. It's already a few minutes past 1900 UTC (I was wrong on my earlier calculations about the equivalent time) but no broadcast yet. ________________________________ From: Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> To: Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com>; Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2014 11:59 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] European Spacecraft Set to Harpoon a Comet Tomorrow Now says the briefing will be at 1900 UTC. ________________________________ From: Joe Bauman via Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2014 11:42 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] European Spacecraft Set to Harpoon a Comet Tomorrow Live briefing at 18:30 UTC -- if I have figured it right, that's less than an hour from now.
