Re: [Utah-astronomy] Dark sky friendly porch lights
Another suggestion is a screw in photo cell between the socket and the bulb if you leave for work before daylight and return after dark. You turn on the switch before you go out the door and have light to get to your car and then it goes off at dawn and is on when you get home and you can turn it of at the switch when you get in the house unless you are expecting guests. I think it was under $10 at Wal-mart. Motion detectors with built-in photo cells are a little more but you don't have to remember to turn them off.

Besides getting a dark-sky friendly fixture, the other thing you can do to help, obviously, is to not turn it on. I never turn mine on unless I'm expecting someone. I don't understand why so many people think they need to leave their outside lights on all night.
