Hi Jacob, thank you for the note. It's a noble project and I wish you great success. I am reposting your request to the Utah Astronomy discussion list to give it wider dissemination. Thank you -- Joe Dear list members, could you please respond to Jacob if you can help? Also, members of the club want to be sure and welcome him to the SAS general meeting on Wednesday. Best wishes -- Joe ________________________________ From: Jacob Hansen <hansen.jacob.m@gmail.com> To: josephmbauman@yahoo.com Sent: Friday, March 15, 2013 12:44 PM Subject: Astrophotography in Red Butte Canyon? Hello, My names is Jacob Hansen. I'm a graduate student at the UofU working on a community/research project in Red Butte Canyon just above the UofU. I'm looking for someone who has some skill in astrophotography to take some long exposure night shots of the sky from various points in Red Butte Canyon to show the effect of city lights in this protected canyon. The canyon is a Research Natural Area and is closed off to the public, it serves as an important baseline for the ecological health of the Wasatch Range. I'm working on getting access to the canyon confirmed in order to photodocument the canyon and the flow of the creek from source to sink. I think being able to communicate the impact of city lights on this canyon would be helpful. We'd travel all the way to the back of the canyon where it is the darkest and make our way back to the city taking shots along the way. I thought I'd contact you since you work with promoting SLAS to the public. My goal is to present my photos and astro-photos to the general public concerned about Red Butte Creek in early May. I'm hoping to pull this project off in April. If you know of anyone in the astronomical society who would be interested in a project like this please let me know. I also plan to attend the SLAS general meeting this coming Wednesday in the Warnock building. Thanks for any help you can provide. Jacob 801-703-4252
