Re: [Utah-astronomy] Utah-Astronomy Digest, Vol 173, Issue 5
Don't get me wrong, Lunt didn't exist when I got my PST. The owner of Lunt was the founder and owner of Coronado, and sold-out to Meade. I guess Meade lawyers forgot about "non-compete" clauses, or gave him a ridiculously short time period to stay out of the industry because it seems that he started Lunt up shortly afterwards. Coronado products are still very good, but you have to deal with Meade customer service now if you want them. And I do like the pressure-tune system, in practice, better than the tilt system. My ONLY concern with pressure-tuned scopes is the degradation of seals over time. Hopefully Lunt warranties are longer than my remaining lifetime, if I go with a Lunt for my next solar scope. There are also filter systems to add to existing scopes, but they typically require a bit of adapter machining. DayStar also produces quality H-a scopes, but their entry-level scopes are more expensive than Coronado or Lunt. It's really hard to go wrong with any of these three makers, all produce good gear IMO. And of course the used market is going to be flooded with gear after the eclipse. Right now many solar scope makers are backlogged until September on the entry-level, lower-priced H-a scopes. On Fri, Jul 7, 2017 at 12:06 PM, Sue Ellen Ebertz <ebertzs@comcast.net> wrote:
