U of U hosting 2 events for the Transit of Venus
From a U of U news release issued today: Venus will pass directly between the Earth and the sun on Tuesday, June 5, and the planet’s rare transit across the face of the sun will present a once-in-a-lifetime viewing opportunity for people in northwestern North America, Hawaii, the western Pacific and northern Asia. The last transit of Venus was in 2004, but the next won’t happen until 2117. The University of Utah’s Natural History Museum of Utah – in partnership with the Salt Lake Astronomical Society and the university’s Department of Physics and Astronomy – will host public viewing opportunities and hands-on activities and lectures on June 4 and June 5. Members of the media are invited to cover the events. More: http://unews.utah.edu/news_releases/transit-of-venus-see-it-now-or-wait-til-... patrick
When a news release goes out, shouldn't we be advertising all of the locations. Everyone is not going to the museum but that's the impression I get from the releases I see. On May 30, 2012 1:21 PM, "Patrick Wiggins" <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

Sieg: With the exception of what I have posted through SLAS Blasts and posted here on Utah Astronomy, all the press releases you are referring to are from the U and the museum. I could be mistaken but I believe that is true. Seth asked specifically about NHMU so I answered that question directly. Clear Skies (please) Steve

Hi Sieg, I'm pretty sure that anything SLAS has publicized has both the museum and your Harmons event but the release I forwarded came from the U's publicity office and they only spoke about the stuff happening at the U. patrick On 30 May 2012, at 13:41, Siegfried Jachmann wrote:

Isn't the museum event the official SLAS location for the event? Is SLAS really responsible to advertise all event locations?

It is really easy to carp about something Erik instead of pitching in and helping. Harmon's at the Brickyard has always been considered the best of their store sites, and was selected at the start of the planning. It really irks me that you pick this late date to complain about the choice of sites. I believe Steve, et.al., have enough on their plates, without having to consider such a lame comment. It belittles you. 73, lh On 5/30/2012 2:38 PM, erikhansen@thebluezone.net wrote:

I apologize to the readers of this list. I stand by my comments, but I should have made them off list. As has been said before, direct attacks on this site only belittles the sender. The SLAS calendar only has listed (as both Sun Partyo and Special Event) the NHMU event: http://slas.us/displayevent.asp?EventID=1886 Whoever can add events to the SLAS website needs to put all club sponsered events IMHO. Initially that was the case but after the star party schedules were printed and SLAS sent out the initial news release about this year's SLAS star party schedule it was suggested SLAS also do a Harmons event. patrick
