Excellent shuttle/ISS pass this evening

Wow, that was awesome! Best pass I've yet witnessed (most directly overhead). It abruptly winked out downrange about halfway between the zenith and NE horizon. Due to some bright ambient lights, I couldn't tell if it went behind a cloud or entered the shadow of the earth. I'm gonna go with the latter....just because it sounds more "spacey". :-) Chris

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Knowing there were 10 heartbeats in that bright point of light made the event even more special to me.

Correct. Heavens Above shows it entered the Earth's shadow at 18:13:49 when (as seen from SLC) it was 26 degrees above the ENE horizon. Heavens Above indicates there's another pass that will be even higher (82 vs. 71 degrees for SLC) pass Sunday evening. However it will happen less than half an hour after sunset so the Sun will only be 5 degrees below the horizon. Still, as bright as it'll probably be I'm guessing it'll be visible. 17:26 rising in the SW 17:29:22 overhead 17:32 setting in the NE patrick
Wow, I was impressed by how bright it was. That's getting to be a pretty big tin can up there. I worried I wouldn't be able to see it from where I was at. From my vantage point in the parking lot of the old WordPerfect campus, it rivaled the two bright planets in the southeast (Jupiter and Venus?) in brightness. Thanks for posting this!
