I might have been misunderstood - again. (After nearly 32 years of marriage I'm used to it.) I see no benefit to SLAS for allowing a film company to use the observatory and I just happen to agree with Roger Butz regarding the use of SPOC as a possible movie prop. I also thought that I had read one or two posts that seemed to imply that others were willing to offer the use of their equipment for free. I, too, was just trying to remind those that might be so inclined that the film company/Ms. Clemenza had indeed offered to pay for the use of private, personal equipment. Not to belabor the point, but just to explain what I was thinking: One pet peeve of mine is seeing phony stuff in film. The backyard astronomer (allegedly) with the ubiquitous 2-inch tasco refractor supposedly doing something (anything) remotely astronomical (usually under a streetlight no less) for example. Put a realistic 8-inch dob (or whatever) in a film instead, and folks watching at least will see "real" gear being used by backyard enthusiasts (regardless of what their beliefs may or may not be in ET's or boogeymen or whatever). As for SLAS, well, like I said, if they are willing to pay (hey, maybe they have a healthy budget?) it could mean some new eyepieces or filters for the observatory, depending on what the "rental" fee might be negotiated. Of course their usage would have to be closely supervised. And honestly, as Siegfried pointed out, I really haven't even had the impression they are interested in the facility anyway -- just some "homemade" telescopes. So, that said, I'm hoping Dave B. and maybe Jo Grahn are still willing to "rent" some surplus scopes for the benefit of themselves (or SLAS) and some bragging rights when the film hits Mystery Science Theater 4000, LOL.
