With the weather so nice is the Sun party at the museum off/on today?
It was canceled a few days ago when the weather appeared iffy for today. A On Mar 9, 2013 11:34 AM, "Patrick Wiggins" <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

Hi Ann, I am personally sorry that we had to call it off; I instigated that after watching the weather carefully for days. I checked weather reports and all said this afternoon wasn't going to be good. I polled the other board members and we agreed it wasn't worth holding because of the likelihood that it would not be held. I sent notes explaining this to the entire SLAS membership. So it's mostly my fault and I am sorry. The weather fooled everybody. -- Joe ________________________________ From: Ann House <ann@annhouse.org> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, March 9, 2013 2:40 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Sun party? It's clear and there are a lot of small prominences as this is written. But due to the breezy conditions, the seeing is soft. Surface detail is muted and not the best. Solar viewing is usually best before about 10 AM. After that, ground heating often degrades the seeing. On Mar 9, 2013 3:38 PM, "Joe Bauman" <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

Hey, Joe, it is not anyones fault. The decision was made on the best info available at the time. I remember that I was told when I moved here that "if I did not like the weather, wait 15 minutes." 73 On 3/9/2013 3:08 PM, Joe Bauman wrote:

It was the right call. It shows why we don't do star parties during the winter. It's hard to plan for anything during the winter months. When we obligate ourselves to another institution, like the MNH, we are just asking for egg on our collective faces. Sig On Mon, Mar 11, 2013 at 3:20 PM, Larry Holmes <larry@kijoda.com> wrote:

Patrick, the reason was explained earlier. It was because the weather forecast was horrible. I know you are a big proponent of the idea that the "weather permitting" warning is enough but believe me it is not. I took "credit" for instigating the change. So kick away, I'm down. -- Joe ________________________________ From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, March 9, 2013 11:33 AM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Sun party? No kicking required. The weather has fooled us before. I just hoped that since the weather forecast last night was good for today the board might have reconsidered and rescheduled. And this on the one day in months I was actually in SLC before noon! :) But since I was up anyway I had my own impromptu sun party. Happily lots of sunspots and there were (are) prominences all the way around the limb. And just for good measure had a look at Vega, Capella and Venus. Tried for Mars. No show. Also for the comet. No surprise it was a no show. Hopefully in a few hours. Speaking of the comet, everyone knows that buying a telescope makes it cloudy and canceling an outdoor event makes it clear. So we should thank the board for their actions as it's now going to be clear for comet viewing tonight. LOL! Clear skies, patrick On 09 Mar 2013, at 15:18, Joe Bauman wrote:

You made a good call Joe. If it had been up to me I would have done the same and called it off. We'll have good days ahead. Thank you for all you do as board member! A On Mar 9, 2013 3:55 PM, "Patrick Wiggins" <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:
