Weather on Channel 4
Channel 4 has been doing a bit of a weatherman (weatherhuman) shuffle since Dan Pope went over to Channel 5. The early morning broadcast has apparently been doing tryouts for the last couple of months (or they're just doing short-term contracts while the station gets sold). Anyway a weatherman named Todd Gross has been on several times, including the last couple of weeks. He's a familiar face to me, since he was on the air in Boston for many years while I was there. But of interest to this list is the fact that he's a very serious astronomer (http://www.weatherman.com). I don't recall ever seeing him at my old club meetings or at any star parties, so he is apparently the more solitary type. But he's pretty serious, nonetheless. Don't know if he'll be at the station for good, or if this is just a drive-by, but there might occasionally be some decent science on the weather. MC
I haven't caught the Channel 4 weather for a while. Is Todd Gross actually in Utah doing the weather or is it a feed from New England? To read his scope reviews he has a serious amount of equipment. He has reviewed over 70 scopes and it appears from the reviews he still has many of the scopes. Obviously, Mr. Gross is unmarried and childless. -----Original Message----- From: djcolton@piol.com To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Tue, 20 Mar 2007 11:15 AM Subject: RE: [Utah-astronomy] Weather on Channel 4 He has reviewed over 70 scopes and it appears from the reviews he still has many of the scopes. ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone. Cool! Maybe he'd run a few of our astrophotos when things are slack in the hurricane business. I think it's possible anyway .... Joe
I just called the station and got his voice mail. Messaged asking if he is the Todd Gross that does telescope reviews and said that if he is there are some local amateurs that would like to make contact. Left my number. Am interested to see if he'll call. pw On 20 Mar 2007, at 10:34, Michael Carnes wrote:
