Jim, I didn't have any trouble finding M81-M82 Sat night. This is probably because my skies were a little darker and I was using my setting circles on my mount. It surprised me how good the pair looked despite the moon. The globular clusters looked good also. Do you live near the mountain in PG? When I used to set up at Rich's house I could always find M81-M82 and M51. I'd estimate the skies there in Lindon are about 4.0 mag. Of course it helps to use a low-power eyepiece to locate these galaxies. I was using 40X Sat night which gave me a 1.7 degree field. Debbie

That method has worked for me before. I just had a tuff time last Saturday night. You wrote: The globular clusters looked goodIf you are talking about M13, I did locate that with no problem. It is beautiful. I am thinking of adding a 3" finder scope to help in the search. Do you know of any good ones? I did a little googleing and all I turned up were 9X50mm. I think a 3" inch finder scope will be more like 150mm won't it? Jim --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo.
Jim, Lumicon (yes, they're back) makes a decent 80mm finder: http://www.lumicon.com/fs.htm That's probably as big as you would want to go without adding a new telescope to your collection! Rich --- Jim Gibson <xajax99@yahoo.com> wrote:

Hi friends, I was wondering if anyone would like to see a view of the moon, with a nearby star, that I took last Thursday night when totality was soon to end. I think the star is one called HR 5762, located in Libra. On Sunday I tried to send a copy to the group but it was rejected as too large (just slightly too large, I think). I received a note that the list administrator would have to decide if it can be sent. But then I never heard back. In fact, I haven't been getting any chatter from the group, so I wonder if it has some malfunction. Anyway, if this gets through and anyone would like to see a photo I took of totality, let me know and I'll be happy to send one along. Best wishes, Joe Joe Bauman science & military reporter Deseret News bau@desnews.com (801) 237-2169

Hi Rich, Here's one, don't know if this is color balanced correctly for your computer -- my iMac here at work doesn't seem to handle photos the same way as my PC at home. Best wishes, Joe Joe Bauman science & military reporter Deseret News bau@desnews.com (801) 237-2169
