This is thrilling. I can't wait to watch the reboot -- Tyson is great! -- Joe ------------------------------ On Tue, Jul 23, 2013 10:54 AM MDT Chuck Hards wrote:
Thanks for that link, Dan.
There's a debate on CN about it. Seems people are already either for it or against it. Very few seem willing to watch it first, then make up their minds afterwards. And it usually boils down to people either liking or hating NDGT or Seth McFarlane, or even Carl Sagan. BTW, some of us old-timers met Sagan when he gave a talk at Westminster in, what was it, '75 or so? He was a perfect gentleman, very affable, even to this then-teenager with maybe 1% of his I.Q.
I have the original on factory VHS. I wonder if it's available on DVD or download? Also still have my original vinyl LP of the "Music of Cosmos" soundtrack. It still holds it's own very well. Some of the best parts of the show had nothing to do with special effects.

I'd heard about this a while ago, but at San Diego Comic Con a teaser trailer was released for the new version of Carl Sagan's Cosmos. It was great to see the 'Spaceship of the Imagination' again.

If there's one person who could do it justice, it's Neil DeGrasse Tyson. But since it's on Fox, I hope it doesn't get canceled after 5 episodes...grumbleFireflygrumble.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnd… More words about Carl Sagan, and “Cosmos – Episode II, The Empire Strikes Back” ))) I’ll have to look into this… it would be great to see an updated version of “Cosmos”! So, so much has been learned since the original! I saw the series on PBS, way back when… and, I had the book (maybe I still have the book, sort of, stored in a box… somewhere that I used to live…). Great stuff! I’m a little apprehensive about any involvement by Fox… and, along with at least one other person here, I lament the treatment given to the TV series “Firefly”, which was a great show!) Probably, Fox executives will try to slip into the new “Cosmos” an attempt to blame Global Warming entirely on the Sun… ;) Also, I slightly knew Carl Sagan, in the early 1970’s. Then, I spent a lot of time at Harvard College Observatory’s “Agassiz Station”, on 600 foot high Oak Ridge (big for eastern Massachusetts…). Carl Sagan stayed there at the cottage a few times, along with other interesting astronomers. When I was 17, I spent two months living there… much to the chagrin of my school’s Headmaster. I did it of my own volition, and against his will!)) Anyway, Carl Sagan was pretty cool… perhaps a little full of himself, but he had enough reason to be!)) Still, the few times I had any sort of brief conversation with him, it was good. And, it was great to see him relaxing with a bunch of astronomers who were also relaxing, glass of wine in hand. I did see him give a talk on possibilities in exobiology, in 1970, and it was an honor to spend some time with him socially, two years later. Of course, as a 17 year old “pre-astronomer”, I was only on the periphery of his awareness!)) By the way… one of the visiting astronomers had a name for Agassiz Station… he called it: “The Urinal of the Gods”… )))
