I took a milkyway photo from this summer in Iowa and applied some Photoshop adjustments per Tyler's talk. I've tried hacking at the photo in the past on my learning curve. I added a soft filter 82 to remove the sodium light on the horizon then I tried some stretching as Tyler suggested. I've got a long way to go, but the photo is getting better!
