Re: [Utah-astronomy] Solar activity
Lunt solar systems - the designer-inventors of the Coronado PST - went on after Meade bought the PST to design a new line. This is what they would have done next if Coronado still independent: Lunt Solar Systems website (not well designed) http://www.luntsolarsystems.com/ I haven't seen one, but a Lunt is now buzzed on most solar newsgroups as the new hot solar scope. Maybe someone else in the club has bought one. Lunt solar scopes are carried by the usual suspects - OPT http://www.optcorp.com/Manufacturer.aspx?mid=246 Woodland http://telescopes.net/doc/2600/cat/1100/by/manufacturer $750 for 60mm of aperature instead of 40mm at $550 for the PST. - Kurt
This will be in Friday's issue of News but since it's topical to this thread I thought I'd post it here now: Mystery of the Missing Sunspots, Solved? http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/17jun_jetstream.htm?list864576 patrick On 17 Jun 2009, at 14:47, Canopus56 wrote:

I've always wondered why H-a solar scopes had achromatic objectives- they're not needed. Looks like Lunt agrees. Raining at lunchtime, but a quick view at 6 PM yielded quite a few smaller prominences. On Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 2:47 PM, Canopus56 <canopus56@yahoo.com> wrote:

There's a beautiful loop on there right now (about 6:00 PM), with a double leg on one end. Nice little arch. I used an 8mm Konig-II eyepiece to bump up the power. My first look is typically with a 16mm, to see if there's anything worth taking a closer look at.
