Just wondering if there is any interest for a 40" aperture f/5 mirror, 5" thick, priced somewhere between $15,000 and $20,000? It may or may not include a diagonal, I'd have to check. Somebody out there want to spend some of their 401k? This is all just thinking out loud at this point. But it could happen for the right person with the bankroll.
Sounds like a size that would not be portable, just ask Charlie Green, so an observatory would also be needed.
It makes me imagine what the SPOC Observatory would look like if the 32" Grim was a classic Newtonian design. I keep coming back to how much bigger the Grim bay would have to be to accommodate that. I would be surprised if there is anymore than whimsical interest. Just wondering if there is any interest for a 40" aperture f/5 mirror,

Whimsical? Respectfully, Erik, if I had the bankroll, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. A 40" f/5 would be leaps and bounds better than than the current SPOC configuration, most nights, visually. And I'm still young enough to handle such a beast. YMMV. On 9/28/10, erikhansen@thebluezone.net <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:
